The Educational Enhancement Grant from the PPEF involved multiple grades and subjects areas at Elmhurst Elementary School. Fourth grade students compared vintage photographs of the Glen and Manor House with the same views found today. Watercolor prints based on the vintage and current photographs were created with the guidance of art teacher Leigh Robinson. Third grade students produced images based on a field trip to the Leonard Brown House and through the Glen Barns. Vintage and current maps, working with artifacts, and oral history interviews rounded out their research.
Because of the keen interest in photography, the Elmhurst Family Photography Club was formed. Over 30 students and their parents participated in family photo shoots. The artwork has been shared with the school community and parents. A community exhibit is planned for June 2005 at the Portsmouth Free Library.
